Victim Care and Mentor Service are a free and confidential service who will provide you with professional, personalised support to help you cope and recover from the impact of crime or anti-social behaviour.

Types Of Support

Below is some details in relation to how we can support you

Emotional support

Provide you with the opportunity to talk to someone independent about what has happened and how it has affected you.

Practical support

Such as providing Crime Prevention advice to make you or your home safer.

Restorative Justice

Where possible we can help you get the answers and explanation you deserve.

Finance

Help you make a claim from your insurance company or apply for Criminal Injuries Compensation, where eligible.

Onward referral

Help you get access to the best possible support from other specialist services.

Attending Court

If you are required to attend court then we can help support you through this process.

Victim Rights

The Victims' Code sets out the minimum level of service you should receive from criminal justice agencies. If you feel your rights are not being met, contact us immediately and we will advocate on your behalf.

Peer Mentor Support

Access support from one of our volunteers to help you work through an empowerment plan to reach your desired goals.

Bespoke Needs Assessment

You will be offered a bespoke assessment of your needs so that support is tailored to you.

What if the crime happened outside of the Durham and Darlington area, can I still receive support?

Yes, you can still receive support if you live in County Durham or Darlington.

Is there a time limit on how long after the crime I can be offered support?

There is no time limit, you can ask for our support at anytime.

I do not want anyone in my home address. Can I meet face to face elsewhere?

Yes, arrangements can be made to meet with you at another safe location.

Yes, you can have someone with you if that is what you require.
